Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Dash overcame multiple deficits to come away with a 7-6 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.

After overcoming a 4-1 hole to force extra innings, Winston-Salem (14-17, 52-43) fell behind Down East (18-13, 68-33) 6-4 in the 10th inning. Facing shutdown reliever Joe Kuzia (3-1), Mitch Roman began the bottom of the 10th as the placed runner at second base. After Kuzia struck out Steele Walker, Craig Dedelow belted a two-run homer onto the concourse in right field to tie the game at six.

In the top of the 11th, Jake Elliott (4-2) induced a popout from JP Martinez and a double play lineout from Sherten Apostel to end the inning. Jameson Fisher began the bottom of the 11th as the placed runner before a Carlos Perez single put runners at the corners. The next batter, JJ Muno, hit a fly ball deep enough into left-center field to score Fisher and end the ballgame on a walk-off sacrifice fly.

Prior to the late-inning drama, the Wood Ducks struck early against Dash starter Kade McClure in the top of the second. To lead off the frame, Curtis Terry doubled off the wall in center field. Following a Yanio Perez groundout, Martinez smacked the second double of the inning to score Terry and make it 1-0. After Martinez stole third, Apostel blooped a single down the right-field line, allowing Martinez to score and push the lead to two runs.

Winston-Salem responded in the bottom of the third against Down East starter Noah Bremer. Muno began the inning by drawing Bremer's only walk of the contest. The next batter, Tate Blackman, doubled off the wall in right field, scoring Muno to make it 2-1.

However, the Wood Ducks added two more in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Tyler Depreta-Johnson lofted a line-drive single into left field. Bubba Thompson then crushed a two-run homer over the high wall in center field to make it 4-1 Wood Ducks.

The Dash cut into the Woodies lead in the bottom of the sixth. Walker started the rally by bouncing a base hit off the glove of second baseman Diosbel Arias. Then, Dedelow blasted a towering two-run homer over the right-field seats to pull the Dash within one. Dedelow finished the day 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs.

In the bottom of the eighth, Winston-Salem knotted up the ballgame against Down East reliever Michael Matuella. To lead off the frame, Walker drew a walk before Dedelow singled to put runners at the corners. Zach Remillard then grounded out to shortstop, allowing Walker to cross home and knot the contest at four and force extra innings.

Winston-Salem concludes its series with Down East on Monday night. Left-hander Konnor Pilkington (2-6, 5.46 ERA) will get the ball for the Dash against fellow lefty John King (2-2, 1.98 ERA). First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.
