Winston-Salem Dash News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (April 16, 2012) -The first meeting of the season between the Dash and Pelicans went the way of the home team. Myrtle Beach won a low scoring contest 2-0 Monday evening at TicketReturn.com Field.
Matt Heidenreich pitched his first career complete game, allowing two runs over eight innings. The Dash (5-5) though were shut out for the first time this season and Heidenreich (1-1) picked up the loss.
Neither team scored until the fourth inning, when Tomas Telis scored on a sacrifice from Vinny DiFazio. Myrtle Beach (5-5) tacked on another tally in the fifth after a blast to left field from Santiago Chirino.
The Pelicans bullpen picked up the win and save after combining to pitch six scoreless innings. Chad Bell (1-0) threw five scoreless innings of three-hit ball to get his first win of the season. Randy Henry allowed a walk in the ninth, but Mike Blanke was stranded at first and Henry picked up his first save of the season. Myrtle Beach starter Wilmer Font allowed three hits, but left after the third inning. His pitch count has been kept low after Tommy John surgery caused him to miss all of 2011.
The low scoring affair made for a brisk pace of play. A season low hour and fifty-six minutes was all it took for game one of the three game set. The Dash look to rebound tomorrow evening when they give the ball to Jake Petricka (1-1, 6.75 ERA). Myrtle Beach counters with the right-hander Cody Buckel (0-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. Pregame coverage starts at 6:50.
Winston-Salem returns to BB&T Ballpark Thursday to begin an eight-game homestand, its longest of the season. For tickets and more information on the upcoming homestand, go to wsdash.com or call (336) 714-2287.
