Keys Lose in Extras 6-4

Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - After taking an early 4-0 lead, the Keys saw their lead dwindle away late in the game as they eventually lost 6-4 in extra innings.

Potomac knotted things up at four apiece in the sixth inning and with the game still tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Keys had runners on first and second base with nobody out, but a double play and then a strikeout killed a potential walk-off win opportunity.

With the game moving to the top of the tenth inning, Potomac put two runs on the board to take a 6-4 lead, one they would not relinquish. With a single, intentional walk, and hit batter loading the bases, Randolph Oduber hit a two-RBI double to give Potomac the edge needed to win.

Relief pitcher Chris Petrini (0-1, 4.26 ERA) gets tagged with the loss while Cameron Selik (1-1, 1.80 ERA) gets the win for Potomac.

The Keys jumped out to an early 3-0 in the second inning when Kipp Schutz singled and Joe Oliveira doubled to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Matt Sweeney then brought the Keys their first run when he singled a baserunner home. After a hit and walk put two more runners on, a two-RBI base hit from Ronnie Welty provided a 3-0 lead.

After trading runs in the fourth inning and the Keys on top 4-1, Potomac started their comeback. An RBI double in the fifth inning from Michael Taylor cut the lead to two and then two more runs in the next frame tied it up.

Sean Nicol got the scoring started when he led off with a single to get on base. Next batter, David Freitus doubled to score Nicol which made it 4-3. After a groundout advanced Freitus to third, a sac fly from Kevin Keyes scored the tying run.

The Keys are back in action Tuesday night for Guaranteed Win Tuesday and Celtic Night. Starting pitcher Kyle Simon (0-1, 7.27 ERA) will be on the mound for Frederick and will battle Kyle Winters (0-1, 4.09 ERA) of Potomac.

Game time is set for 7:00 PM and live coverage starts at 6:40 on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
