Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Dallas Stars have recalled Center Joel Lundqvist from the Iowa Stars. White also announced that the Iowa Stars have released Right Wing Jamie Tardif from his Professional Tryout Contract (PTO).
A native of Are, Sweden, Lundqvist is in his first professional season in North America. In 34 games with Iowa, the 24-year-old Lundqvist is currently leading the team with 33 points, including a team-high 15 goals and 18 assists: 34(15/18/33).
The 24-year-old Lundqvist played in his first four NHL games with the Dallas Stars after being recalled from Iowa on December 4th. He was held scoreless in those four games.
Selected by the Dallas Stars with their third selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he made his NHL debut with Dallas in early December, appearing in four games during his initial recall. Recalled on December 13th, Lundqvist, along with his identical twin brother Henrik skated their way into National Hockey League history on December 14th, 2006. Joel, playing center for Dallas and Henrik, playing goal for the New York Rangers, became just the third set of twins in the 90-year history of the NHL to play on opposite teams in the same game. Joel had just under six minutes of ice time and no shots, while Henrik had a 43-save performance in New York's 5-2 win.
Lundqvist played in 253 career games for Vastra Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League, posting 55 goals and 82 assists for 137 points with 541 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 49 playoff games for the Goteborg club, notching 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points with 85 PIM.
A native of Welland, Ontario, Tardif appeared in two games for the Iowa Stars, failing to record a point. He began the 2006-07 season, his first as a professional, with the Toledo Storm of the ECHL. In 25 games with the Storm, he has averaged a point per-game notching nine goals and 16 assists: 25(9/16/25). The 6-0, 205-pounder also appeared in one game for the Manitoba Moose this season, recording no points.
Drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, he played five junior seasons with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He had 291 points, including 155 goals in 324 games with Peterborough: 324(155/136/291). He was born on January 23rd, 1985.
