A Quick Look Back

12.29.06 - Manchester 5 - Worcester 3

The Sharks gave a valiant effort, but in the end, the Manchester Monarchs prevailed in a 5-3 effort against the Sharks on Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Graham Mink scored twice for the Sharks in the loss, his third and fourth goals of the season.

12.30.06 - Worcester 3 - Portland 2

Thomas Greiss made 45 saves and the Worcester Sharks used regulation and shootout goals from both Mike Iggulden and Mathieu Darche on their way to a 3-2 shootout victory. An energetic crowd of over 6000 fans who packed the DCU Center for the game and post-game indoor fireworks display were sent home happy as the Sharks rebounded strong from last night's road setback.

Rookie Rewards...

Sharks rookie netminder Thomas Greiss was stellar in the Worcester goal on Saturday evening. Greiss turned aside 45 shots in a 3-2 shootout victory over the Portland Pirates. Not only did Greiss steal the show late in the game, the Koln, Germany native stoned all four Pirates shooters in the breakaway session. For his efforts, Greiss earned No. 1 star honors in the game and his fifth win of the season.

Darche Back on Track...

Sharks forward Mathieu Darche is back to his goal-scoring self. Darche snapped a nine-game scoreless stretch with a hat trick back on December 22 and currently has 23 goals on the season, good for fourth in the AHL. Darche leads all Worcester scorers with 39 points (23+16=39) and 12 power play goals.

Shootout honors...

Worcester won its second shootout of the season on Saturday and coincidentally beat the same team, the Portland Pirates. Sharks forwards Mathieu Darche and Mike Iggulden scored the regulation goals in the third period. Portland managed to tie the game and force overtime, but Pirates netminder Dov Grumet-Morris surrendered goals from the same shooters in the shootout as Team Teal took the extra point in the standings.
