P-Bruins Fall to Bears 5-2

Hershey, PA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Hershey Bears 5-2 Sunday evening at The GIANT Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Ben Walter and T.J. Trevelyan.

In the opening period, the P-Bruins took the 1-0 lead at the 16:10 mark, while on the power play. Trevelyan made a cross-ice pass to the near point, where Mark Stuart took a shot. In the near circle Walter redirected the puck past Hershey goaltender Daren Machesney and into the net. The Bears went on the power play right after the P-Bruins scored and tied the game at one at the 17:16 mark. Alexandre Giroux blasted a shot, which went off the crossbar and post before making its way into the net. Jonas Johansson and Joey Tenute had the assists as the game headed into the first intermission tied at one.

In the second period, the P-Bruins retook the lead while on the power play at the 1:42 mark. With a pile of players in front of the net Martins Karsums and Walter both got off shots, but it was the third attempt by Trevelyan, which got past Machesney. Hershey tied the game at two right after their power play expired. At the 6:40 mark, Eric Fehr scored with Chris Bourque and Kyle Wilson grabbing the assists. The Bears took their first lead of the game at the 11:32 mark of the second period. Fehr sent the puck into the P-Bruins zone where it was picked up by Tomas Fleischmann. He dropped the puck off to his trailer Tenute who snuck the puck past P-Bruins netminder Philippe Sauve. The Bears capped off the scoring at the 18:52 mark, when Fehr scored his second goal of the game. Jeff Schultz and Machesney recorded the assists as Hershey led 4-2 at the second intermission.

The Bears added a shorthanded goal at the 19:56 mark of the third period from Peter Vandermeer on their way to a 5-2 victory.

Sauve stopped 11 of 15 shots and Mike Brown stopped all 11 shots he face for the P-Bruins, while Machesney made 34 saves for the Bears. Providence was 2 for 5 on the power play, while Hershey went 1 for 9 on the man-advantage.

The P-Bruins conclude their eight game road trip Wednesday, January 3 against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Hartford Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 5 to take on the Worcester Sharks at 4:05 p.m. For tickets call the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
