D.C. United Defender Joseph Mora Obtains His Green Card

WASHINGTON - Costa Rican defender Joseph Mora has obtained his Green Card that grants him permanent residence in the United States. Mora will no longer occupy an international roster spot for the Black-and-Red.

"I'm excited to obtain my permanent residence in the United States," Joseph Mora, said. "It has been an amazing experience to move to this country with my family and I look forward to continuing to represent D.C. United in the nation's capital."

The 26-year-old joined the Black-and-Red on a permanent transfer on March 7, 2018 from Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica. Since arriving in the nation's capital, Mora has recorded two assists in 40 appearances (37 starts) in the MLS Regular Season. Mora recorded his first career MLS assist in the 84th minute of the 1-1 draw with LAFC on May 26, 2018. He recorded his second assist on the game-winning goal against Minnesota United on Sept. 12, 2018.

In two seasons, Mora has been an integral part of the D.C. United backline. Mora was an important piece in the impressive midseason turnaround for the Black-and-Red that saw them finish in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and qualify for the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. In 40 appearances, the defender has won 58 tackles and made 51 interceptions while creating 16 chances.

After his impressive displays for D.C. United, Mora made his international debut for Costa Rica as a substitute in the 3-2 win against Chile on Nov. 17, 2018 in an international friendly. He has made three total appearances for Costa Rica.
