Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania - Michael Cohen netted a pair of goals and Barret Ehgoetz tallied a goal and an assist in pacing the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 4-2 win at Johnstown on Saturday night. Cincinnati is now 8-2 on the road since Thanksgiving.
The Cyclones opened the scoring at 13:29 of the first period as Michael Cohen came up the left wing side and fired a shot past Kris Mayotte to open a 1-0 edge. It was an unassisted goal, as an errant pass was picked off by Cohen near the center ice line. Cincinnati outshot Johnstown, 16-15, in the first period.
In the second period, Ian McKenzie slapped home a rebound for his fifth goal of the campaign at 13:20 to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead. Barret Ehgoetz and Donny Grover assisted on the score. Sean Berkstresser broke the shutout bid at 14:50 for his fifth goal and narrowed the deficit to 2-1. Off a faceoff in the center ice area, Johnstown won the draw and a backward pass to a defenseman was again intercepted by Cohen, who skated up the left side and rifled a shot past Mayotte to extend the lead to 3-1. Cincinnati again won the shots battle, 10-9, in the stanza.
The Chiefs clawed to within one at 14:47 of the third when Ryan Del Monte buried his eighth of the year, cutting the deficit to 3-2. An empty net goal by Ehgoetz with four seconds remaining, his eleventh, ended the scoring and gave the Cyclones the 4-2 triumph.
Kyle Gajewski stopped 31 shots in picking up his seventh win of the year. Kris Mayotte, turned aside 31 shots in falling to 14-5-2 on the year.
The Cyclones are now 16-13-5 on the season, while Johnstown is 21-11-2. The Cyclones open a three game home stand on Tuesday, hosting the Wheeling Nailers at U.S. Bank Arena with a 7:30pm faceoff. Tuesday night is a âBig Beer Tuesday' with 24 ounce Labatts beers available for two dollars each.
