Victoria wins 12th in a row with 2-1 victory

Victoria, B.C. - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors met in the second of a three-game set on Saturday night. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Condors countered with Yutaka Fukufuji.

The Salmon Kings and Condors played discipline defensive hockey through the first 20 minutes of the game with neither team allowing a goal.

Victoria opened the scoring when Curtis Billsten slapped a point shot past Fukufuji on the power play at the 14:17 mark. Just over a minute later Darryl Lloyd would add to lead when Tim Wedderburn hit Lloyd with a beautiful tape-to-tape stretch pass out of the Kings' zone. Lloyd raced down the left side picked up the puck and snapped it in the left top corner past Fukufuji. Victoria led 2-0 after 40 minutes.

The Salmon Kings and Condors continued to exchange opportunities, but with five minutes remaining Bakersfield moved to within one goal when Dave Bonk snuck a rebound past Boutin while on the power play. Victoria held off the final Bakersfield push for their 12th straight victory. Salmon Kings 2 Condors 1.

Victoria finished 1/4=25% on the power play, while Bakersfield finished 1/5=20%. Final shots were 32-29 for the Condors.

The Salmon Kings and Condors meet tomorrow for an afternoon game to wrap up their three-game set. Puck drop goes at 1:05 p.m. A Skate with the Salmon Kings will follow the game.
