TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After a thrilling 4-3 win over Kalamazoo last night at U.S. Bank Arena, this afternoon the Cyclones are in Toledo in hopes up picking up back-to-back victories before taking a few days off for the All-Star Break. The teams have split their eight meetings this season.
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: The Walleye picked up the ECHL's most bizarre win of the season last night, by scoring seven goals in the final two periods to erase a 6-1 deficit and beat the Elmira Jackals 8-7. It was Toledo's fourth-straight victory and pulls them within just one-point of Kalamazoo. Andy Bombach leads the Walleye in offense, collecting 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 38 games. He is also the team's leading scorer against Cincinnati - posting 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists) in eight meetings this year. Toledo's goaltending situation has been in constant flux this year, but for the moment Joe Palmer is their leader between the pipes, posting a 7-9-0 record with a 4.08 goals-against average.
THE NEW GUYS: With T.J. Fast called up to the AHL, the 'Clones have brought in three new faces: Jon Higgins, Chase Watson, and Tyler Fletcher. Higgins skated in Cincinnati's training camp in the preseason and scored his first ECHL goal last night while Watson was dealt from Trenton and picked up an assist on that goal. Fletcher has a played with Knoxville (SPHL) this season.
DON'T MESS WITH OLSON: Cyclones heavyweight Benn Olson has established himself as a top enforcer in the ECHL this year. He leads the league with 15 major-penalties in 2010-10, which accounts for nearly one third of Cincinnati's major penalty total this season (48).
WEAPONS FROM EVERYWHERE: Of the 20 active skaters on the Cyclones roster, 13 of them have registered multi-point games this season. Brian O'Hanley and Dustin Sproat lead Cincinnati with five such games this year. Dylan Hunter also has five multi-point tilts, however he is still playing with the Milwaukee Admirals at the AHL level.
