Aces Crown Salmon Kings 6-1

January 23, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

The Aces emphatically broke out of their losing skid and scoring slump on Saturday night with a six-goal outpouring and 6-1 win over the Victoria Salmon Kings from the Sullivan Arena. Six different Aces found the back of the net, and Alaska notched four power play goals in the victory. The Aces head into the ECHL All-Star Break with a 22-15-2 record, and the highest winning percentage in the Mountain Division. Alaska will now take a week-long hiatus during the ECHL All-Star Break, and return to action on Friday night to begin a three-game set against the All-Star Host, Bakersfield Condors. Fans can visit the Aces at their Facebook page for more information, or call the Aces at 907.258.ACES. Tickets can also be purchased through the Aces website at www.alaskaaces.com.

The Aces stormed out of the gates to take early control of the hockey game. Kory Falite scored on a turnaround shot from the high slot at 4:19 to make it 1-0 Alaska. Then the Aces got back-to-back power play goals to extend the lead. Mark Isherwood blasted a one-timer home from the blue line at 9:06 to make it 2-0, and Tyler Ruegsegger notched his first goal with the Aces when a shot from the blue line deflected in off of him in front of the net to give the Aces a 3-0 lead after one period. Alaska outshot Victoria 9-7 in the period.

The Aces added to the onslaught in the second period with another trio of goals. Brian Swanson placed a perfect shot into the top right corner of the net at 11:36 on a power play to make it 4-0 Alaska. Zach Harrison then increased the lead to 5-0 at 14:46 on a beautiful wraparound goal from behind the net. Wes Goldie scored for the second straight night at 17:08 on a similar wraparound to make it 6-0 Aces after two periods.

Goaltender David Shantz came in in relief of Chris Beckford-Tseu to start the third period, and kept the Aces off the sheet. Aces goaltender Gerald Coleman was closing in on his fourth shutout of the season, but on a Victoria power play at 13:18, Coleman misplayed a dump into the zone, and lost the puck to Matt Siddall who scored into an empty net behind Coleman. The goal stood as the only blemish on Coleman's solid performance, and capped the scoring in the game.

Gerald Coleman (17-10-1) made 21 saves on 22 shots, earning the win. Chris Beckford-Tseu (0-4) suffered the loss, making 15 saves on 21 shots. Shantz stopped six of six, and did not figure into the decision. The Aces power play went 4-8, while the Salmon Kings went 1-2. The Aces outshot the Kings 27-22 in the game.

The Aces will now take a week-long hiatus during the ECHL All-Star Break, and return to action on Friday night to begin a three-game set against the All-Star Host, Bakersfield Condors. It's the Condors only visit this season to Anchorage, and tickets are available for games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Fans can visit the Aces at their Facebook page for more information, or call the Aces at 907.258.ACES. Tickets can also be purchased through the Aces website at www.alaskaaces.com.
