DULUTH, GA - The Gwinnett Gladiators fell short in a battle against the Greenville Road Warriors, 2-1 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period the back and forth action continued into the second and it wasn't until the 7:26 mark that the Road Warriors (26-14-2) opened the scoring with a goal from forward Shane Harper. The score remained 1-0 at the end of two.

Just 1:56 into the third period the Road Warriors increased their lead to two with a tally from Connor Shields, his 13th of the year. It came after Glads forward Justin Milo was hauled down with no call on the rush in the offensive zone, and Greenville capitalized on the ensuing 3-on-1 rush.

Exactly two minutes later the Gladiators (19-18-7) responded when a Michael Forney shot from the point was redirected in off a defenseman to make it 2-1. This was Forney's fifth game in a row with a point, and he now has six goals and 14 assists over his last 18 games. Pat Galivan and Tom Zanoski added the assists.

Greenville survived a late flurry of shots from Gwinnett, and despite outshooting the Warriors 37-20 and 17-5 in the third, Gwinnett fell 2-1. This snaps the Glads streak of seven games with at least a point and a four game winning streak over Greenville.

Gwinnett heads to Kalamazoo to face the Wings after the All-Star Break on Saturday, January 29th at 7:30 pm.
