
Cyclones Drop Shootout To Elmira, 3-2

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Two third period goals would push the Elmira Jackals into overtime with the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday night. From there, solid goaltending would allow for a 3-2 shootout victory. Elmira is a perfect 4-0 when games go into overtime this season.
The Cyclones would strike first at 11:52 of the 1st period with a power play goal by Jimmy Kilpatrick. The Cyclones would remain in the lead at the end of the 1st period 1-0. Cyclones would stay in control of the game by scoring again late in the 2nd period with a goal by T.J McElroy at 13:02. The Jackals would score early into the 3rd period making the score 2-1 Cyclones. Jackals score late to tie game with a goal by Kaleb Betts.
The Cyclones would remain hot coming out of the gates firing away when Jimmy Kilpatrick would find the back of the net at 11:52 of the first period giving Kilpatrick his third goal of the season.
The Cyclones would control the second period when TJ McElroy would score the second goal of the night at the 13:02 mark of the second period giving McElroy is second goal of the season. The Cyclones defense would hold off an aggressive Jackals offense taking a 2-0 lead going into the third period.
The Jackals would answer with a quick score early into the 3rd period cutting into the Cyclones lead. Ryan Gibbons would score at 6:54 to giving the Jackals their first goal of the night making the score 2-1 Cyclones. It wouldn't take long for the Jackals to strike again late in the 3rd period with a goal by Kaleb Betts at 14:19 to tie the game 2-2 forcing the game into overtime.
Neither team could capitalize in overtime forcing a shootout. The Cyclones would miss their first three attempts in the shootout and the Jackals would answer by making their first 3 attempts defeating the Cyclones 2-3.
Mitch O'Keefe stopped 28 shots in picking up the win, while Kyle Gajewski entered the game late in the first period and absorbed the shootout loss, stopping 14 shots.
The Cyclones are 3-3-3 on the season, while Elmira is 6-3. The four game homestand comes to a close for Cincinnati on Saturday night when Elmira returns. It is Throwback Night with tickets reduced to $7 each, with hot dogs, Pepsi's and pizza slices sold for one dollar each and popcorn reduced to 50 cents. The player jerseys will be auctioned off afterward with proceeds benefiting Most Valuable Kids. The U.S. Bank Arena Box Office will open at noon for ticket sales.
