Gladiators Fall 3-1 to Everblades

Brandon Kaleniecki notched his third goal of the season on the power play midway through the second period but the Gladiators gave up three goals in the middle stanza as they fell to the Florida Everblades 3-1 on Friday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. With the loss, the Gladiators fall to 2-3-2 on the season.

The Gladiators and the Everblades skated to a scoreless tie through the first period. Florida outshot the Gladiators by a 2-to-1 margin finishing with a 14-7 shots on goal advantage after the opening period.

Florida broke the scoreless tie 4:44 into the second period. Yannick Tifu, parked in the slot, was able to redirect a centering feed through the legs of Gladiators netminder Kevin Nastiuk to put the Everblades on the board. Ernie Hartlieb and Brad Zanon added the assits on the goal for the Everblades.

Danick Bouchard pushed the Florida lead to 2-0 midway through the second period. Bouchard worked down the off wing and took a rink wide pass and beat Nastiuk ranging across the crease for the goal. Ryan Lang added an assit as he set up Bouchard on the marker. Ross Carlson also had an assist on the marker for Florida at 10:19 of the second period.

Kaleniecki's third goal of the season on the power play cut the Florida lead back to a goal at 13:13 of the second period. Playing on the back side of a power play, Kaleniecki was able to corrall a rebound off of Florida netminder Anton Khudobin and flick the puck past the netmider for the power play marker. Jordan Fox and Bryan Esner collected the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.

The Everblades regained the 2-goal lead a little over a two minutes later. Mathieu Roy muscled down the left wing, slid by a Gladiators defenseman and jammed the puck past Nastiuk for the marker. Andrew Fournier collected an assist on the goal for the Everblades at 14:51 of the second period.

Florida clamped down defensively in the third period as they kept Gwinnett off the board in the final stanza to ice the contest. Gwinnett went 0-for-4 on the power play in the final period and could not crack Khudobin on 20 shots in the third period.

Nastiuk finished with 26 saves in the losing effort for Gwinnett. The Gladiators finished 1-for-8 overall on the power play in the loss.
