Steelheads Acquire Shelast From Dallas

November 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads will have a new face in the lineup tonight as they face off against division-rival Alaska in the final game of a three-game series this week. The series is tied at a game-a-piece as the Aces took the first game 2-1 Wednesday night and Idaho scored the game-winner in a 2-1 shootout Thursday. Forward Tyler Shelast has been reassigned by the Steelheads National Hockey League affiliate, the Dallas Stars, to Idaho from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. Shelast was signed by Dallas as a free agent last March.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound winger, who is expected to arrive in Boise this afternoon, has seen action in three games on the Bulldogs roster this season with no points. Following a four-year NCAA career with Michigan Tech, he registered one goal and one assist in 11 games with Iowa of the AHL in 2007-08.

Shelast played four seasons at Michigan Tech from 2004 through 2008 and, in his senior year, was ranked first on the team in goals (8) and shots on goal (114), and ranked second in points (26) in 39 games. The Kelowna, BC native had 19 points and led all Huskies rookies in scoring as he was named the team's top freshman in 2004-05. He was teammates with current Steelheads forward Jimmy Kerr all four seasons at Michigan Tech.

Tickets are still available for tonight's game at the Qwest Arena box office, by calling (208) 383.0080 or visiting the team's website at www.idahosteelheads.com.
