Ned Lukacevic Assigned To Reading
November 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Ned Lukacevic ["loo KASS uh vick"] has been assigned by the Boston Bruins of the NHL from the Providence Bruins of the AHL to the Royals. In separate transactions also announced today, the Royals: (i) activated defenseman Tyson Marsh from the seven day injured reserve; (ii) activated forward Jason Payne from the three day injured reserve; (iii) placed forward Tyler Doig on the seven day injured reserve; (iv) placed defenseman Steve Ward on the three day injured reserve; and (v) traded the rights to forward Joe Zappala to the Charlotte Checkers.
Lukacevic (6'0/200) (22), a fourth round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, set career highs with seventeen goals and nineteen assists (thirty-six points) in sixty-one games in his second season with the Royals last year. For his efforts, Lukacevic, who is in his third year of pro hockey, was selected by Royals' fans as the team's Unsung Hero at the conclusion of the regular season. Lukacevic's favor with the fans certainly received a boost last season when he registered his first pro hat trick in a 9-3 Royals' win over the Wheeling Nailers on March 15, 2008 and, in the process, won one fan $10,000 as part of the team's "St. Hat Trick's Day" promotion that night. This past off-season, Lukacevic was traded by the Los Angeles Kings to the Philadelphia Flyers, who traded him to the Bruins. Lukacevic played five games with the Bruins AHL affiliate in Providence this season prior to being assigned to the Royals.
The Royals play a pair in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, against the Chiefs this weekend: Friday, November 7 @ 7:00 pm and Saturday, November 8 @ 7:00 pm. The Royals then return home to the Sovereign Center on Sunday (November 9; 5:05 pm) for Military Appreciation Night. This weekend's games will be broadcast live on the Royals' Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster). The pre-game show presented by the Works at Wyomissing will kick off at 7:00 pm. To become a part of Royals hockey, call 610-898-PUCK or log onto www.royalshockey.com.
