Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones handed the North Division leading Kalamazoo Wings a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Rookie Brett Robinson had a goal and an assist to pace the attack. Kalamazoo lost for the first time this season on the road in seven regulation time games (5-1-1).
The Cyclones raced to a 2-0 first period lead. Forward Dustin Sproat snapped off a shot from the high slot 6:03 into the stanza, as Brett Robinson had the assist. The lead extended when two seconds into a power play, Scott Reynolds took a long pass into the Kalamazoo end rocketed his sixth goal of the season just past the glove hand of goaltender Jeremy Duchesne. The shots favored Cincinnati, 15-13, in the opening frame.
Kalamazoo cut the deficit to 2-1 when tenth year veteran Ben Simon picked up his second goal of the campaign on the power play at 8:52, as Sal Perraulta and Tom Morrow had the assists. Mike McLean restored the two goal edge with his fourth score of the season at 18:30, as Brian O'Hanley had the helper on the score. McLean flicked a shot from the right wing side past Duchesne. The shots favored Cincinnati, 15-5, in the period.
The Cyclones scored the only goal of the third period at 13:30, when Brett Robinson collected his first pro goal. Robinson collected his own rebound and stuffed it past the right leg of Duchesne to close out the scoring. The Cyclones outshot Kalamazoo, 15-8, in the period and 45-26 for the game.
Jeremy Smith picked up his sixth win of the season and third straight triumph with a 25 save effort. Jeremy Duchesne dropped to 4-1 on the year with a 41 stop performance. Cincinnati was one for six on the power play, while the Wings were one for three with the extra attacker.
