Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters had their seven game winning streak snapped on Thursday night against the Batavia Muckdogs. Batavia picked up the 3-2 win in the bottom of the 12th inning. The Cutters magic number for clinching the division stays at five with West Virginia winning. Williamsport holds a 7 game lead over second place West Virginia in the Pinckney Division.
The Crosscutters fell behind in the bottom of the third inning against the Muckdogs. Williamsport starter Franklyn Kilome allowed a pair of singles including a walk that would lead to Batavia going up 2-0. The Cutters defense came up big for Kilome turning a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. Luis Espiritu looked to give the Cutters a chance to get onto the scoreboard as he lead off the third inning with a single. Espiritu would be stranded at second base to end the frame.
Williamsport had very few chances through the early portions of the game to try and tie things up. Chuck Weaver made the most of his first start with Batavia as he worked scoreless into the eighth inning. Williamsport would finally mount a rally in the top of the eighth inning as Espiritu and Cuicas scored on a double by Mark Laird to tie the game 2-2. Laird picked up one RBI on the play as Cuicas scored on an error by the left fielder.
The game would require extra innings to be decided after Kenny Koplove and Andrew Godail combined to toss three innings of scoreless baseball. Skylar Hunter came out for the Cutters to pitch the bottom of the 12th inning after working two scoreless innings himself. After allowing a lead off single to the Muckdogs the runner would move up to second base on a groundout. Blake Anderson would deliver the big blow for the Cutters as his double to right center field scored the runner from second to give Batavia the 3-2 victory.
