-SPIKES LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK AGAINST DOUBLEDAYS: The State College Spikes, who now find themselves trailing West Virginia by a half-game in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race, continue their 10th Season this evening with the opener of a three-game series against the Auburn Doubledays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College dropped two of three meetings at home against Auburn from June 22-24, but rebounded to take two of three games from the Doubledays at Falcon Park from July 4-6. All-time, the Spikes are 49-47 against the Doubledays, with a 24-24 home record.

-LAST GAME: Casey Grayson slugged his first home run of the season, but the Spikes were besieged by the Williamsport Crosscutters' offensive barrage in an 8-4 loss on Wednesday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. Grayson's home run, a solo shot to right-center field, drew State College within two runs of the Crosscutters (42-22) in the sixth inning. The Spikes then loaded the bases in the seventh with two singles and an error to begin the seventh, but were turned away after a popout and a double play. State College started the scoring in the second as Josh Swirchak narrowly missed a home run, but drove in two runs with a wall-ball double to left field. However, Williamsport answered in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run from Jose Pujols, his fourth long ball of the season and third of the series. The Crosscutters then scored three runs in the third and put the game way with another three-run inning in the eighth. State College notched its final run with an RBI groundout from Swirchak in the ninth, but could get no closer.

-MARTINEZ GETS BALL FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: State College right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets his 12th start of the season tonight. Martinez has produced six quality starts of six innings or more allowing three earned runs or less in his first 11 outings of the season. The Santiago, Dominican Republic product went 5 1/3 innings in his last outing on Friday at Batavia, allowing just two unearned runs but taking the loss. Martinez has not yet faced Auburn this season, but has gone 3-2 with a 2.42 ERA in seven appearances gainst Pinckney Division foes since June 21.

-CROWNOVER GOES TO HILL FOR AUBURN: Auburn left-hander Matthew Crownover will make his ninth start and 12th appearance of the season tonight for the Doubledays. Crownover last faced the Spikes on June 22 in his pro debut, yielding two runs on three hits, including a homer, over two innings of work. Crownover has posted a 2.79 ERA in four August starts, however, including five shutout innings against Williamsport on Saturday in a no-decision. The Clemson product has struck out 28 batters and walked just eight on the season. Crownover has posted a 1.80 home ERA this season, as compared to a 7.56 ERA on the road.

-MARTIN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: Spikes Athletic Trainer Dan Martin has been named the New York-Penn League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League, with an additional award is given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year. Martin is now eligible for the Minor League Trainer of the Year award as well, which will be given at the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.

-MARTIN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: Spikes infielder Casey Grayson hit his first homer of the season last night, three days after notching his first triple of the year. Grayson, who is tied for the team lead in doubles with 15, is now second in the New York-Penn League in batting average with a .317 mark, and his .423 on-base percentage leads the league. Grayson is also tied for first in the NYPL with 66 hits, and leads the loop with 39 walks.

-SPIKE MARKS: Pedro Echemendia is tied for first in the NYPL with 22 appearances, and is fourth in saves with nine...Mike Pritchard is tied for second in the NYPL with 37 runs scored...Infielder Josh Swirchak was called up to Single-A Peoria today...State College holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against fellow Wild Card contenders West Virginia and Hudson Valley...The Spikes have been swept in a three-game series just three times this year, twice by Williamsport
