Cutters Triumph in Season Finale

September 4, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters defeated the State College Spikes 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Historic Bowman Field, ending the 2011 season by picking up their 43rd victory.

The Cutters gained a 1-0 advantage in the first, as Kyrell Hudson successfully swiped home on a double-steal. They tacked on another in the second courtesy of two Spikes defensive errors, as Brock Stassi crossed the plate to make it 2-0.

State College tied it up 2-2 in the fourth, as the Spikes used two hits and three Cutters errors to even the score.

The score stayed tied until the sixth, when Harold Martinez's two-out RBI single put the Cutters ahead 3-2. Stassi then followed with a singled to right, and two more runs scored when the ball got under the glove of Carlos Mesa.

That 5-2 score would be the final, as heavy thunderstorms in the ninth inning prevented the Spikes from taking their last at-bats.

This concludes the 2011 season for the Crosscutters, as they finish with a 43-33 record, good for second place in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.

WP- Jesus Pirela (3-0, 4.34)
