
Crosscutters Announce Award Winners

Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters announced their end-of-season awards on Sunday, September 4, on the field prior to the final game of the season.
The Crosscutters Most Valuable Player Award was shared by 3B Maikel Franco & OF Aaron Altherr. Despite spending three weeks in August at Class A Lakewood, Franco still led the Crosscutters in RBI's (38), Doubles (17), and On Base Percentage (.367) while hitting .287. Atherr led the Cutters in home runs (5) and was 2nd to Franco in RBI's (31). He also stole 25 bases which ranked 2nd on the squad and 4th in the league while hitting .260. The award is voted on by fellow Crosscutters players and coaches.
The Rankin Johnson Pitcher of the Year was LHP Lino Martinez and is given to the Crosscutters top pitcher as voted by the Cutters players and coaches. Martinez was 6-2 with a 2.79 ERA. He led the Cutters in wins, innings pitched (67.2) and strikeouts (46). His 6 wins also ranked 3rd in the NY-P League and his ERA ranked in the top 10 in the loop.
Max & Alta Border Good Guy Award is presented to the player who demonstrates the most community involvement while a member of the team. The award is voted on by the Crosscutters front office staff and was presented to RHP Austin Brough.
The Crosscutters Booster Club presented the Richard Bittner Most Popular Player Award to C Bob Stumpo. The award, voted on by Booster Club members, is given annually by the Booster Club to the player who through his actions on and off the field have endeared him to the fans.
The Gold Star Employee of the Year Award is given to the Crosscutters game day employee who demonstrates dedication to their job and to customer service on a daily basis. It is voted on by Crosscutters front office staff who award co-winners this season; Eric Budd/Scoreboard Entertainment & Mike Pearson/Usher.
The Lycoming County United Way Home Run Team Player of the Year Award went to OF Aaron Altherr who led the team with 5 home runs. The award, presented by the Lycoming County United Way goes to the player who tops the squad in round-trippers.
The Crosscutters ended the 2001 season in 2nd place in the NY-P League's Pinckney Division with a record of 43-33.
