Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Tonight's Game

The Aberdeen IronBirds close their 2011 schedule the same way they started it: by playing the Hudson Valley Renegades (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). The IronBirds pitching staff tossed its fourth shutout of the season last night, as Aberdeen beat Hudson Valley 1-0. Tyler Wilson pitched a career-high six scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits and striking out six. Zach Fowler and Luis Lebron combined to pitch the final three innings scoreless. The IronBirds will have right-hander Jose Mota on the mound in tonight's finale. Mota is making his fifth start of the season for Aberdeen. He'll go up against right-hander Trevor Shull.

Davis' Doubles

Glynn Davis hit his team-leading 14th double in last night's win. It was an important hit, as Davis eventually came around to score the only run of the ball game. Davis is now batting .571 in the month of September (eight hits in 14 at bats).

McGregor Joins Orioles

IronBirds pitching coach Scott McGregor will miss tonight's game, as he joins the Baltimore Orioles in New York City. McGregor was named the interim bullpen coach for the O's. He joins the club as they begin a three-game series at the New York Yankees.

New York-Penn League Playoffs

With one day left in the regular season, three of the four playoff spots have been determined. The Staten Island Yankees won the McNamara Division. The Brooklyn Cyclones, who are a game-and-a-half behind Staten Island, won the league's wild card spot. The Auburn Doubledays won the Pinckney Division. And with one game to play, the Connecticut Tigers have a one game lead over the Vermont Lake Monsters in the Stedler Division. The IronBirds missed the playoffs for the 10th straight season.

A Winning Month'

While it's been a bad season for the IronBirds, they can close the month of September with a winning record if they defeat the Renegades tonight. The IronBirds haven't had a winning record in any month this season.
