The Williamsport Crosscutters will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of "The Great Potato Caper" on Saturday, August 18th when the Cutters host the State College Spikes at 7:05pm.

On August 31, 1987, Dave Bresnahan used a potato in a trick-play while playing for the Williamsport Bills. The play, which resulted in Bresnhan's release from the Cleveland Indians organization, instantly garnered national notoriety.

"Frankly, I am very surprised at the level of interest that my stunt produced and the fact that people still make a big deal about it, even after 20 years.", said Bresnahan recently. "A minor league season gets to be a long grind, particularly when you are a second-string catcher and hitting only .149. I just wanted to have some fun and break up the monotony a little."

On August 18, the first 1,000 fans will receive a Bresnahan bobblehead that depicts him with a potato in his hand. Bresnahan will also be on hand to sign autographs, meet fans and help re-enact the infamous event. In addition, the game will be followed by a spectacular fireworks show.
