Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen, MD- The Aberdeen IronBirds, short-season class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, announce today that outfielders Matt Angle and Joe Nowicki, shortstop Tyler Henson and starting pitcher Zach Jevne have been named to the 2007 American League All-Star team for the third annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game, held on August 14 at Duchess County Stadium in Fishkill, New York. Aberdeen's four representatives are the most for the franchise in the event's three year history.
Angle is hitting .320 with 56 hits in 175 at-bats. He leads the league with 43 runs scored and is tied for the league lead with 23 stolen bases. He leads the IronBirds in average, hits, runs, stolen bases and on-base percentage (.439). Angle was selected in the 7th round of the June MLB Draft out of Ohio State University.
Nowicki is batting .294 with a team-leading five home runs and is fourth in the league with 32 RBI. Nowicki had a 15- game hitting streak-the second longest in the league this season-from July 17 to August 1 and raised his batting average from .279 to .322 during the streak. The streak was the second longest in Aberdeen franchise history. Nowicki signed as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2006.
Henson is batting .299 with four home runs and 26 RBI. He leads the IronBirds with 12 doubles. Henson is in his second season since being selected in the 5th round of the 2006 Draft out of Tuttle High School in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Jevne is 3-3 with a 2.38 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 45 1/3 innings for the IronBirds this season. His 2.38 ERA is sixthlowest in the New York-Penn League. He went 3-1 with a 1.66 ERA in six July starts. Jevne was selected in the 27th round of the 2006 Draft out of Northern Iowa University.
The New York-Penn League All-Star Game is now in its third season. The game pits top prospects from the American League affiliates against those from National League affiliates. The 2006 All-Star Game was held at Ripken Stadium and the American League won 4-1. The National League won the inaugural All-Star Game 5-4 at Brooklyn's KeySpan Park in 2005.
