Cutters Edge Renegades for Fourth Straight Win
July 31, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters won their fourth consecutive game of the season Sunday night, topping the Hudson Valley Renegades 3-2 at Historic Bowman Field.
The Cutters opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as Maikel Franco's two-out RBI single made it 1-0.
Heavy showers made their way to the area in the middle of the second inning, suspending play for an hour and 27 minutes. After the delay, Kelly Dugan increased the home team's lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out, two-run single to right to give Williamsport a 3-0 lead.
Williamsport pitchers Lino Martinez, Cody Fick, and Hector Neris held the visiting Renegades hitless through six-plus innings in an outstanding team effort. Hudson Valley's first base knock came with two outs in the seventh.
The Renegades came within a run in the ninth inning on a two-run homer by Craige Lyerly to make it 3-2. But Juary Gomez struck out Leonardo Reginatto looking to end the game and preserve the victory.
Williamsport completes its six-game homestand with a 7:05pm matchup on Monday versus Hudson Valley. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
