Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD - For the second consecutive game, a pitcher's duel took place at Ripken Stadium, and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 1-0.

The Scrappers scored the lone run of the game in the top of the eighth. Todd Hankins led off the inning with an infield single. He advanced to second on a John Barr sacrifice bunt. After being held at third on an Aaron Siliga double, Hankins was able to score on Cody Elliott's RBI sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Scrappers a 1-0 lead that they would not give up.

Aberdeen wasted another quality appearance from Trent Howard. Howard went five innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out six. Zach Petersime took the loss for the IronBirds. He pitched three innings of relief, allowing two hits, and one (earned) run. Cody Allen picked up the win for the Scrappers. He pitched two and a third innings, did not allow a hit or a walk, while striking out three IronBirds.

Aberdeen looks to avoid a sweep at the hands of Mahoning Valley when the final game of the series takes place tomorrow. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., when Matt Hobgood (0-2, 9.31) will make his first start at Ripken Stadium. He will go up against the Scrappers' Rob Nixon (3-3, 4.19).

The Aberdeen IronBirds sold out season tickets for the 10thstraight season. Group packages and single-game tickets, however, are still available for the 2011 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
