Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Aberdeen, Maryland - Danny Jimenez and Cody Allen combined on a six-hit shutout and the Scrappers got a run in the top of the eighth inning in a 1-0 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds.
Jimenez pitched 6.2 innings, leaving with two on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Allen came on to strike out the final batter of the inning to keep the game scoreless. He retired all seven batters he faced.
The Scrappers were held without a hit over the first four innings until K.C. Serna singled with one out in the fifth.
The only run of the game scored in the eighth, when Todd Hankins led off with an infield single. John Barr bunted Hankins to second base and Aaron Siliga hit a ball into the left centerfield gap that was dropped by Glynn Davis, sending Hankins to third.
Cody Elliott lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Hankins to put the Scrappers up 1-0. Allen made quick work of the IronBirds in the eighth and ninth to pick up the win and improve to 3-1. Aberdeen reliever Zach Petersime picked up the loss to fall to 0-2.
Mahoning Valley played its quickest game of the season in its first day game of the year, a two hour and five minute game.
The Scrappers go for the sweep of the IronBirds on Monday night at 7:05 pm.
