-SPIKES LOOK FOR SECOND WIN AGAINST SPINNERS: The State College Spikes take on the Lowell Spinners tonight in the second game of a three-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College is 2-2 against the Stedler Division this year, having just completed a three-game series on the road at Tri-City. The Spinners last visited the Spikes in 2009, and took two of three games. State College is 7-7 against Lowell all-time, and 4-3 at home.
-LAST GAME: Kirk Singer scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning as the Spikes took full advantage of the Spinners' miscues and a strong pitching effort to earn a 3-2 victory on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Singer, who went 2-for-3 at the plate on the evening, started the bottom of the ninth with a walk, and scored when Hunter Cervenka uncorked his second wild pitch of the inning. Zack Dodson went a career-long six innings and struck out a career-high eight batters in the start for the Spikes. Josh Poytress retired the last nine batters he faced for the relief victory.
-KINGHAM ON THE HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Nick Kingham gets his ninth start of the season for State College tonight. Kingham has allowed just two runs over this last three starts, all of which lasted five innings. The Las Vegas, NV native and 2010 fourth-round draft pick has also struck out eight and walked only one over his last three starts. Kingham is allowing just a .244 batting average to right-handed hitters this season.
-SPINNERS GO WITH HOLTMEYER: In a change, right-hander Joe Holtmeyer gets the ball to start for the Spinners tonight. Holtmeyer is coming off of the Disabled List tonight, and is making his second appearance of the season. The 22nd-round pick of the Red Sox in this year's draft out of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Holtmeyer went two scoreless innings against Connecticut in his only other pro outing.
