Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
GAME HIGHLIGHTS: The Williamsport Crosscutters lost just their third home game of the season Saturday night, falling 4-3 to the visiting Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Mahoning Valley took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, collecting two runs on four hits off Cutters starter Lino Martinez. The Scrappers then made it 4-0 in the second inning on two more hits and a Cutters error.
The home team got a run back in the bottom of the third, as Kyrell Hudson singled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Kelly Dugan to cut the lead to 4-1.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth, when the Cutters came up with two runs one hit and a walk to make it a 4-3 ballgame. But Scrappers reliever Enosil Tejeda hung on for the save by striking out Patrick Murray with two outs and the bases empty.
Martinez pitched six total innings for Williamsport, allowing three earned runs while striking out three. Scrappers starter Danny Jimenez earned the win by pitching five innings of one-run baseball.
These two teams will rematch on Sunday at 5:05pm and Monday at 7:05pm. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
