Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Williamsport finishes the road trip 3-4 after losing to Batavia 7-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Cutters were blanked all day by Muckdogs pitchers, including starter Corey Baker. He pitched six shutout innings and got the win. Williamsport posted five 1-2-3 innings.

Mitch Walding was a bright spot for the Cutters, going 2-for-4 with a double. He also started a tough double play on defense.

Williamsport starter Jeb Stefan delivered perhaps his best performance of the year through three innings. He retired the first nine Muckdogs faced, but that all changed in the fourth inning. After walking David Popkins to load the bases, Jacob Wilson hit a grand slam to left field to break the game open, 4-0.

Batavia added to the lead off of reliever Jon Musser. Patrick Wisdom hit a two-run triple after Kyle Hoppy failed to make a diving catch in center field. Popkins then followed with an RBI-double to right field.

Williamsport would avoid the shutout in the eighth. After Logan Moore led off with a double and advanced to third, Tyler Greene drove him in for the lone Cutter run.

The Crosscutters drop to 25-41 on the year and back to 12-12 in August.

The Cutters start a six-game home stand on Monday. First pitch against the Jamestown Jammers is at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
