-SPIKES FINISH FIRST HALF OF HOMESTAND AGAINST JAMMERS: The State College Spikes face the Jamestown Jammers tonight as part of a six-game homestand in the final game of a three-game set. The Spikes are playing 10 of their final 13 games of the New York-Penn League season at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, with three road games against the Jammers in the mix as well. State College is 3-3 against Jamestown this year, and 29-37 against the Jammers all-time.
-LAST GAME: Clay Holmes yielded just two hits and one walk over five scoreless innings, and the State College Spikes' early offensive surge keyed a 5-0 win over the Jamestown Jammers on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Holmes also struck out one batter and faced the minimum nine batters over his first three innings. D.J. Crumlich went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and knocked in the last run of a four-run second inning for the Spikes.
-CREASY GETS THE BALL FOR SPIKES TONIGHG: Right-hander Jason Creasy takes to the hill tonight for his team-leading 13th start of the year. Last time out, Creasy went 4 1/3 innings at Williamsport, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out one in a no-decision. The Clayton, NC native faced Jamestown on August 15 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, giving up five runs, but only one earned, over 1 2/3 innings in a loss.
-LOGAN GETS MOUND START FOR JAMMERS: Right-hander Blake Logan, who has faced teh Spikes twice over the last two weeks, is slated to start for the Jammers tonight. Logan came off of the Disabled List and made his first start on August 11 at Jamestown, going two innings and yielding one hit before taking the loss in a two-inning outing against the Spikes on August 16. The Roff, OK native was the 13th-round draft choice of the Marlins this year.
-McPHERSON BECOMES 15TH SPIKE TO REACH MAJORS: Former Spikes pitcher Kyle McPherson, who was with the club from 2007-09, earned promotion to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night and became the 15th Spike to become a Major Leaguer when he tossed two scoreless innings against the San Diego Padres. McPherson was the Spikes' Pitcher of the Year in 2009. The Creola, AL native was returned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
-SPIKE MARKS: Tyler Gaffney's five triples are tied for second in the NYPL...Tom Harlan's six losses are tied for second in the league...Samuel Gonzalez leads the NYPL with 5 sacrifice flies...State College pitchers have allowed just 16 home runs, least in the NYPL...RHP John Kuchno and RHP Isaac Sanchez each debuted for the Spikes last night, with Kuchno making his professional debut
