Curve Win and Snap Three Game Skid

READING, PA - Gorkys Hernandez connected for his first home run in a Curve uniform as Altoona snapped a three game losing streak with a 4-3 win over Reading at First Energy Park on Thursday.

Hernandez along with fellow outfielder Jose Tabata each hit solo blasts off of Reading starter Vance Worley (5-5). Angel Gonzalez and Jim Negrych each had RBI singles for the Curve as seven different Curve starters recorded hits Thursday.

Curve starter Tyler Herron had a solid second start in the 2009 season lasting 4.2 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven Phillies, but did not factor into the decision. Reliever Jeff Sues (2-5) picked up his second win of the year tossing 3.0 innings and giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and Sean Smith picked up his fifth save in six opportunities.

The Curve (28-52) finish up the four game set with Reading (45-33) Friday night at First Energy Park. The Curve will throw left hander Kyle Bloom (1-4, 3.59) and Reading will have RHP Mike Stutes (5-4, 4.46) on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
