One-Headed Monster...For the second time this season, the Aeros lost game one of a doubleheader before game two was rained out. Similar to a May 16th affair at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, Akron dropped game one yesterday to Bowie 3-2 in front of 2,110 fans before game two was postponed due to rain (and rescheduled for this evening). LHP Ryan Edell took his first loss of the season in 10 starts for Akron, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 5.2 innings, while CF Jose Constanza picked up a pair of doubles for his first two-double game since August 19th, 2007 while playing for Class A Kinston against Frederick.
No Worries...Despite the loss yesterday, the Aeros remain in second place in all of professional baseball with a 51-26 record and .662 winning percentage. They are currently on pace for a franchise-record 94 wins (eclipsing the 93 wins Akron had in 2002) and that mark would tie for the fifth most victories in a season in the 86-year history of the Eastern League.
Joyous June...The Aeros had a very successful month of June, finishing 19-9 while batting .260 as a team and out-scoring their opponents by 50 runs at 136-86. The batting average was Akron's highest in a month since July of last season (.270), while the pitching staff held a 2.95 ERA and recorded 196 strikeouts as opposed to only 84 walks in 241.0 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Beau Mills and Nick Weglarz tied for second in the league with 21 RBI in the month of June, Vinnie Pestano led the league with nine saves, and Ryan Edell's 31 strikeouts were also a league-high.
