Curve Surrender Lead Late, Fall to SeaWolves

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve dropped a late lead against the Erie SeaWolves and fell, 2-1, at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Thursday. The loss overshadowed six scoreless, three-hit innings for Curve starting pitcher Steven Brault.

The Curve (42-30) hit the halfway mark of the 2015 season in first place in the Eastern League's Western Division, holding a one-game lead in the standings after the loss to the SeaWolves (28-44).

With the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth, the SeaWolves scored the go-ahead run with a base-loaded hit-by-pitch. With two outs in the inning, Curve reliever Jhondaniel Medina (Loss, 1-2) hit Jeff McVaney to bring in James Robbins.

Back-to-back singles by Adam Frazier and Max Moroff to lead off the first inning led to Altoona's only run, which scored on a sacrifice fly by Dan Gamache.

With two outs, in the seventh, Erie's Wynton Bernard doubled in Austin Green to tie the game at 1-1.

In his second Double-A start, Brault left the game after the sixth inning with a 1-0 lead. He had five strikeouts on the night.

The combination of Joe Rodgers (Win, 2-1) and Jeff Ferrell (Save, 12) pitched two innings of relief to seal the win for Erie.

Altoona and Erie finish the four-game set on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The game will be followed by a fireworks show. The first 1,000 fans 14 and under receive a pair of Curve Athletic Youth Socks, presented by Advanced Vein Care.

Right-hander Jason Creasy (8-1, 3.14) takes the hill for the Curve as he seeks a league-best ninth win. Lefty Josh Turley (6-5, 3.05) will pitch for the SeaWolves.
