Curve Stymied by Rosenbaum and Senators in 7-1 Loss

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Altoona was stymied by the Senators' Danny Rosenbaum (2-0) all evening as the southpaw tossed a complete-game to lead Harrisburg past the Curve, 7-1, in the final game of the three-game series. Rosenbaum gave up just one unearned run while recording 14 groundball outs and nine strikeouts in his second win of the season. Tony Sanchez had two hits and threw out two baserunners in the loss for Altoona.

The Senators scored the first runs of the game in the first inning when they sent six men to the plate off Curve starter Nathan Baker (2-1). Jeff Kobernus drew a one-out walk ahead of a Destin Hood double that placed runners at second and third with one away. Tim Pahuta followed with an RBI groundout to make it 1-0 Senators. With two down, Chris Rahl hit a ball towards third that ate up Elevys Gonzalez and went into left field. Hood scored from third on the play to make it 2-0 Senators. Baker got out of the inning when Sanchez threw out Rahl trying to steal second for his first caught stealing of the game.

Baker worked a scoreless second but didn't escape the third when Harrisburg sent nine men to the plate and scored three runs. They did most of the damage after Baker had already recorded two outs with a strikeout of his counterpart Rosenbaum and Sanchez throwing out Eury Perez stealing second. The southpaw then walked Kobernus and Hood before Pahuta came through with another RBI, this time with a single to second.

Rahl and Stephen King each followed Pahuta's RBI single with RBI singles of their own to extend the lead to, 5-0. Baker departed the game to give way to Kris Harvey after he walked Devin Ivany to load the bases. Harvey retired the ninth batter of the inning, Chris McConnell, to end the frame.

Altoona couldn't figure out Rosenbaum until the seventh when they scored their only run of the game. Sanchez found his second hit of the game with two down in the seventh to end Rosenbaum's streak of 13 in a row set down since the third. Adalberto Santos reached on an error after Sanchez's single to place two on with two down. Gonzalez came to the plate and drove in his fifth run of the season with a single that brought Sanchez in from second to cut the deficit to four.

The Senators immediately answered off new reliever Kyle Cofield in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back home runs by Pahuta and Rahl to make it 7-1.

After a 2-5 road trip, the Curve (5-7) return home tomorrow to the welcoming confines of Peoples Natural Gas Field to open up a seven-game, eight-day homestand at 6:30 p.m. vs. the Richmond Flying Squirrels (7-7). Gates will swing open at 5:30 p.m. while airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6 p.m. RHP Brandon Cumpton (0-2, 4.76), who gave up just one run over seven innings in his last start vs. Richmond, takes the mound for the Curve while LHP Mike Kickham (1-0, 0.00) tosses for the Squirrels.
