New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Deck McGuire rebounded from two shaky starts to throw a gem for the Fisher Cats in the finale of a seven-game home stand against the Binghamton Mets on Wednesday night. Mike McDade added a pair of hits and scored an early run in the Fisher Cats' 2-0 series-clinching win over the baby Mets.
McGuire began the game matching zeroes with Binghamton righty Zack Wheeler for the first three innings. In the fourth, the Fisher Cats finally broke through. McDade blooped a single into shallow left-center before taking second on a ground out by Brad Glenn. A few pitches later, Kevin Howard laced a double to deep center field to plate McDade for the game's first run.
With the lead, McGuire continued to cruise, pitching into the seventh inning. He left after his third walk, but new reliever Clint Everts stranded the inherited runner. McGuire was credited with 6.2 innings of one-hit, shutout ball. He walked three and struck out three to pick up his first win of the season.
New Hampshire added an insurance run in the last of the eighth inning. John Tolisano drew a one-out walk and was balked to second base by reliever Edgar Ramirez. Ryan Goins followed him with a single to right field to push the score to 2-0.
Everts, added to the roster on Tuesday, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts in relief. Ronald Uviedo closed it down in the ninth for his league-best fourth save of the season.
McDade led the Fisher Cats offensively, accounting for two of the team's three total hits. He added a walk to finish the three-game set against Binghamton with six hits in ten at-bats. He had nine hits during the seven-game home stand and takes a five-game hitting streak on the road. Goins added his fifth RBI of the season in that seventh inning, pushing his series total to four against the Mets.
The Fisher Cats now head on the road to begin a seven-game, eight-day road trip to New Britain and Binghamton. Game one in New Britain begins tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. LHP Brett Cecil (0-2, 6.94) takes the ball against New Britain LHP Logan Darnell (2-0, 0.90). You can follow the action with Bob Lipman beginning at 6:15 PM on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home to begin a seven-game home stand on Friday, April 27, against the Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. The opener of the series features spectacular Atlas Fireworks and the Oral Health Challenge presented by Northeast Delta Dental.
