April 18, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves could not combat a strong series by the Trenton Thunder as they dropped the finale on Wednesday afternoon 7-1 at Jerry Uht Park.

Trenton got on the board in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Zack Segovia. Ronnier Mustelier singled with one out and Cody Johnson walked with two for Melky Mesa. Mesa turned on a Segovia pitch and hammered a three-run home run to left, his second of the series putting the Thunder ahead 3-0.

The SeaWolves broke through in the bottom of the fifth against Trenton starter Cory Arbiso. Brandon Douglas and John Murrian connected on back-to-back singles starting the inning. A Jamie Johnson sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position and Douglas came home on a Niuman Romero groundout making it a 3-1 game.

Trenton responded with runs in the top of the sixth. Mesa led off, walked, stole second and reached third on an error. He scored on a Jose Gil single to make it 4-1. Segovia was lifted for reliever Jared Gayhart. Luke Murton singled and Kevin Mahoney walked loading the bases for the nine-hitter Walter Ibarra. Ibarra hit into a fielder's choice and the 'Wolves retired Gil at the plate. With the bases still loaded, Abraham Almote walked scoring Murton. A wild pitch scored Mahoney and a Zoilo Almote fielder's choice plated Ibarra for a 7-1 Trenton lead.

Segovia (0-2) took the loss allowing five runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in five-plus innings of work.

The SeaWolves begin an eight-day, seven-game road trip on Thursday night at Bowie.7:05 First Pitch. Lefty Jared Wesson (1-0, 9.00 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Zach Clark (0-1, 8.44 ERA).
