READING, PA - Phillies starter Vance Worley pitched a gem as Reading won the final game of three game series 2-1 over Altoona Sunday at First Energy Park.
Worley (3-0) tossed eight innings allowing just one run on three hits with six strikeouts and only one walk.
Reading got on the board in the third on a Quintin Berry solo home run to right and then the Phils scored again in the seventh on an Orlando Guevara RBI single.
The Curve cut the Phillies lead in half in the eighth when James Boone connected for his first home run of the season to pull the Curve within a run
Curve starter Brad Lincoln (0-3) had another strong effort in the loss. Lincoln went 6.2 innings and gave up two runs on just seven hits with five strikeouts.
Altoona (8-20) will stay on the road and finally face their fourth opponent of the season when the Curve travel to Harrisburg Monday night. Right hander Jared Hughes (0-4, 2.79) will get the start for Altoona. Lefty Ross Detwiler (0-2, 3.22) will be on the mound for Harrisburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with radio coverage starting at 6:45 on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
