Connecticut Defenders News Release

MANCHESTER, NH- The Defenders delivered an impressive road victory on Mother's Day as Connecticut shutout New Hampshire 3-0 and won the series 2-1.

Connecticut took an early lead in the top of the third inning off of newly promoted SS-Brandon Crawford's RBI single to score C-Jackson Williams who lead off with a double and added three more in the ninth as they cruised to the win Sunday afternoon.

Defender's starter, RHP-Tim Alderson (1-0) made his double A debut and showed no signs of nerves as he pieced together a masterful performance. Alderson tossed 6.2 innings of scoreless no hit baseball, walking one batter and struck out a season high ten. After 2B-Brad Emaus reached on an RF-Eddy Martinez error in the bottom of the first inning, Alderson retired the next eighteen in a row before he would walk DH-David Cooper in the seventh.

The no hitter was in tact even after Alderson departed as LHP-Joe Paterson got the final out in the bottom of the seventh. RHP-Jesse Foppert took over in the eight and retired the first two batters before 3B-Al Quintana delivered the Fisher Cat's first hit with a single threw the left side of the infield.

Connecticut padded their 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth as 3B-Brad Boyer sent a shot of CF-Sean Shoffit's head in center to score pinch runner Antoan Richardson and CF-Mike Mooney. It was Boyer's second triple of the season and it gave the Defenders the 3-0 advantage.

LHP-Matt Yourkin came in to relieve Foppert in the ninth with two runners aboard and got the final two outs to secure his first save of the season.

The Defenders will travel back home to Norwich but remain on the road as they'll take on interstate rival New Britain tomorrow at 6:35pm. The Giants No.1 rated prospect, LHP-Madison Bumgarner will make his double A debut after his recent promotion from San Jose.

Fans can catch all the action starting with the Defenders Pre-game Show on the Defenders Flagship Station WICH 310AM or online at ctdefenders.com starting at 6:20pm.
