
Gil's Walk-Off Home Run Lifts Trenton To 4-3 Win Over Binghamton

(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton Catcher Jose Gil hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning to lift the Thunder past Binghamton 4-3 on Sunday afternoon from Waterfront Park. Trenton swept the three-game series against Binghamton.
Gil led off the bottom of the ninth inning against Binghamton Reliever Roy Merritt (0-3). Gil connected on his first home run of the season, and 16th career minor league home run. In four games on the season, Gil is 5 x 9. Two of his hits have come off of Merritt. The victory was Trenton's second walk-off win against Binghamton on the season. Trenton defeated Binghamton 5-4 in 14 innings on April 9th. Thunder Reliever Josh Schmidt (3-0) earned the win for the Thunder. He worked out of a bases-loaded no-out jam in the eighth inning.
With the Thunder down 3-2 in the eighth inning, Trenton Designated Hitter Jorge Vazquez hit a solo home run off of Binghamton Reliever Stephen Clyne to knot the game at 3-3. Binghamton had taken a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Third Baseman Shawn Bowman off of Thunder Reliever Michael Dunn.
Down 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Thunder scored two runs to tie the game. Thunder Left fielder Colin Curtis had an RBI triple to plate the first run of the frame. It was the second straight game in which Curtis has notched a triple. Vazquez followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
Trenton Starting Pitcher Wilkins Arias received a no-decision. He scattered five hits and two runs over four innings. Binghamton Starting Pitcher Ryan Coultas also received a no-decision. He allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings. Four Thunder Players had multi-hit games in the win.
Trenton starts a three-game series on Monday night with the Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox). RHP Ivan Nova (2-1, 3.86) will start for Trenton against Portland RHP Junichi Tazawa (3-2, 3.34). Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
