Altoona Curve News Release

(Akron, Ohio) The Akron Aeros scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie as they went on to beat the Altoona Curve 4-3 before a Saturday afternoon crowd of 2841 at Canal Park in Akron.

With the game tied at three, Nick Weglarz drew a lead-off walk off losing pitcher Daniel Moskos (1-1). Josh Rodriguez laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Weglarz to second base. With one out and a runner at second, Armando Camacaro hit a hot smash to Curve 2B Jim Negrych. The ball took a wicked hop and appeared to hit Negrych in the chest, putting runners at first and third with one out. Right-hander Lincoln Holdzkom came out of the bullpen to face Jared Head, who homered earlier in the game. Head came through again as he hit a ball off the end of his bat into center for a run scoring single, giving the Aeros a 4-3 lead.

Carlton Smith (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Vinnie Pestano worked a scoreless ninth to nail down his seventh save of the season.

Catcher Steve Lerud drove in two of the Curve's three runs with a game tying two run single in the top of the seventh inning.

The Curve conclude their five game series with the Akron Aeros on Sunday afternoon at 1:35. Left-hander Tony Watson (0-2 11.57) gets the start for the Curve. Right-hander Hector Rondon (3-0 1.10) will toe the rubber for Akron.
