
New Britain Silences Trenton Bats In 5-1 Loss On Saturday Night

(Trenton, NJ)- New Britain scored four two-out runs in the sixth inning, and went on for a 5-1 victory over Trenton on Saturday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton had its largest crowd of the season at Waterfront Park (6,039).
With the game scoreless in the sixth inning, New Britain (5-10) tallied four runs with two outs in the frame to take a 4-0 lead. The Rock Cats had runners at first and second base with two outs when Right fielder Rene Tosoni delivered an RBI single to give New Britain a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, New Britain First baseman Whit Robbins connected on a bases-clearing double to increase the Rock Cat lead to 4-0. New Britain added a run in the seventh inning on an RBI Single by Center fielder Brandon Roberts.
New Britatin Starting Pitcher Matthew Fox (1-1) went seven shutout innings to earn the win. He yielded only five hits. Fox struck out five and walked two. Trenton's best scoring chance off of Fox came in the first inning when the Thunder loaded the bases with one out. But, Fox retired Designated Hitter Marcos Vechionacci on a fielder's choice and Outfielder James Cooper on a fly-out to get out of the jam. Trenton Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope (1-1) allowed just one base runner in the first five innings. However, he was just charged with four runs and four hits in six innings. Trenton (8-6) scored its lone run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Infielder Jorge Vasquez.
Trenton Outfielder Colin Curtis went 3 x 4 in the loss with three doubles. He extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Shortstop Eduardo Nunez went 2 x 4 with a run in the loss for the Thunder.
Trenton and New Britain wrap up their four-game series on Sunday aftnernoon. RHP Kanekoa Texeira (1-1, 4.50) will start for Trenton against New Britain RHP Jeff Manship (0-2, 7.62) Game time is set for 1:05 p.m.
