Curve and Akron Split Doubleheader

(Akron, OH) Altoona scored four runs in the seventh inning to grab a come from behind win over Akron 8-5, splitting a double-header with the Aeros, who won the first game 3-2 in nine innings.

Akron won the opener in the first extra inning game of the season for Altoona. John Drennan drew a one out walk off losing pitcher Jean Machi (0-1) and scored when Mick Hall hit a drive up the left center field alley, giving the Aeros their second straight win over the Curve in this five game series.

In the nightcap the Curve trailed Akron 5-4 and was down to their final three outs when Jim Negrych and Jose Tabata hit back-to-back singles off losing pitcher Josh Judy (0-1) to begin the seventh inning. Jason Delaney drove them both in with a booming triple off the center-field wall, giving the Curve a 6-5 lead. Delaney scored when Brad Corley singled off Neil Wagner to give the Curve a 7-5 lead. Corley tallied the final run of the inning on a double up the right-center field alley by Angel Gonzalez.

Eric Krebs (1-2) pitched two shutout innings in relief to pick up the win for Altoona, who improved their record to 4-11 on the season. The loss drops Akron's record to 12-3 on the campaign.

Game four of the five game series is set for Saturday afternoon at 1:35. Left-hander Daniel Moskos (1-0 6.10) gets the start for the Curve. Akron will counter with lefty Chuck Lofgren (1-0 1.80).
