The B-Mets dug themselves an early 5-0 hole and could not hit their way out of it Saturday afternoon, losing 7-2 to New Hampshire at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium. The loss gives the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead in the four-game series.
RHP Eric Brown made his first start of the season in place of Fernando Nieve, who is on the Temporarily Inactive List. Brown was roughed up for five runs over four innings of work.
New Hampshire's (11-5) big inning was the four-run fourth as the Fisher Cat's pounded out five hits capped off by an RBI triple by Sean Shoffit. Luis Sanchez and Adam Calderone also contributed RBI singles.
Binghamton (8-6) plated it's two runs in the sixth inning. After Ruben Tejada doubled down the left field line, Emmanuel Garcia dropped a single inside the left field foul line to score Tejada from second. Garcia's hit knocked New Hampshire starter Fabio Castro out of the game after five-plus innings. The B-Mets added a second run in the inning as Garcia scored on a 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Lucas Duda.
Castro was the winning pitcher for the second time this year, lasting five innings giving up two runs with seven strikeouts. Brown took the loss falling to 1-1.
