Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve came from behind to beat the Reading Fightin Phils, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Max Moroff and Jose Osuna came through with back-to-back run scoring hits in the eighth to put the Curve ahead.

With the win and an Akron loss, the Curve (69-60) extended their advantage over the third-place RubberDucks to three games for the second and final potential postseason spot from the Western Division. The Eastern Division-leading Fightin Phils (74-54) have now lost four of their last five games.

Trailing 2-1 heading to the bottom of the eighth, Andy Vasquez led off with a pinch-hit single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Frazier. Moroff followed with the game-tying single, and Osuna clubbed a go-ahead single into center field to plate the go-ahead run.

The hit for Moroff was his 142nd of the year, tying the Altoona franchise record for the most in a single season by a switch-hitter, evening the mark set by Shawn Garrett in 2002.

Tom Harlan (6-3) struck out J.P. Crawford to cap a 1-2-3 top of the ninth and seal the Curve victory. Harlan allowed one unearned run in his two innings of work.

Altoona starter Steven Brault allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts over seven innings. With the no-decision tonight, Brault is now 6-0 with a 1.25 ERA over his last eight starts dating back to July 18.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Reading's Destin Hood broke the tie with an RBI single.

Altoona answered in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double by Sebastian Valle to even the score at 1-1.

A fielding error by Frazier in the eighth inning off the bat of Harold Martinez scored Brock Stassi to give Reading a 2-1 lead.

Altoona and Reading finish the series on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Lefty Zack Dodson (7-10, 3.92) takes the ball for the Curve against the Fightin Phils right-hander Jake Thompson (3-1, 2.08).

Actor and Cumberland, Md. native Eddie Deezen, known as "Eugene" from the hit film Grease will be making his way to PNG Field on Wednesday for "Grease Night." It will be Wing and Wine Wednesday, featuring .50-cent wings and wine specials on the concourse during the game. It will also be 4-Pack Wednesday, presented by WALY 103.9, and fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four regular sodas all starting at $39.
