New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain- Mike Yastrzemski and Quincy Latimore hit home runs and Ariel Miranda confounded the Rock Cats hitters for six innings, as the Bowie Baysox defeated the Rock Cats, 5-3, Tuesday night, before 2,853 at New Britain Stadium.

Bowie jumped out to a 5-0 lead off of Rock Cats starter Shane Carle on two-run home runs by Latimore and Yastrzemski, the grandson of Hall of Fame player Carl Yastrzemski. Chance Sisco added an RBI double.

The Rock Cats staged a seventh inning comeback against Miranda, the lefthander who was signed as a free agent by the parent team of the Baysox, the Baltimore Orioles, after pitching seven professional seasons in the Cuban National Series.

With runners at first and third and two outs in the seventh, Dean Espy dropped a surprise two-out bunt to plate New Britain's first run. RBI singles by Juan Ciriaco and Mike Tauchman cut the lead to two runs, before the Bowie bullpen thwarted the Rock Cats comeback bid.

"He threw well, he just left a couple of pitches up," Rock Cats manager Darin Everson said about Carle's performance. "Shane pitched down in the zone 80 percent of the time." With the loss, Carle dropped to 13-7. He is trying to become the first Rock Cats pitcher to win 14 games since Juan Rincon in 2001.

Tauchman collected three hits to improve his batting average to .302. He also knocked in a run. Espy added two hits and an RBI.

In their last-ever home stand at New Britain Stadium, the Rock Cats will wrap up their three-game series against Bowie Wednesday night. LHP Ryan Carpenter will be trying for his third straight win. Game time is 7:05.
