Green Leads Erie to Victory in Game One

The SeaWolves took down the Binghamton Mets in the opening game of Tuesday night's doubleheader 5-1 behind a strong outing from starter Chad Green.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first inning. Wynton Bernard led off the game with a triple and scored on an error for a 1-0 Erie lead.

The Mets tied the game against Erie starter Chad Green in the last of the first. T.J. Rivera doubled with one out and moved to third on a Josh Rodriguez single. Rivera scored on a Brock Peterson sacrifice fly to center.

Erie quickly regained the lead in the top of the second. With two outs, James Robbins singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Alberto Gonzalez singled home Robbins for a 2-1 lead and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Harold Castro doubled home Gonzalez making it 3-1. Bernard then came up with his second hit of the game, an RBI single, scoring Castro for a 4-1 advantage.

Erie added to the lead in the fourth. Robbins and Gonzalez started the inning with consecutive singles. A wild pitch advanced the runners into scoring position and Robbins scored on a Castro sacrifice fly to right for a 5-1 lead.

Green (4-14) earned this win, his first since August 2. In the game, he allowed a run on seven hits with no walks and a season-high eight strikeouts. Green tossed a complete game, the first of his career. It was his 10th straight start allowing three runs or fewer.
