Cubs Use Six-Run Fourth to Top Rainiers

Iowa scored six runs in the bottom of fourth inning en route to a 9-3 win over Tacoma Wednesday night at Principal Park in front of 9,438 fans.

Brad Snyder collected 3 RBI on the night to tie his career-high in a single season (82) and Micah Hoffpauir extended his season-high hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the third inning. Snyder's 82 RBIs are the most for him in a season since 2005, when he collected 82 between single-A Kinston and double-A Akron as a member of the Cleveland Indians farm system.

Iowa roughed up Rainiers' starter Ian Snell (3-4, 6.66), who was charged with seven runs on six hits over three and two-thirds innings in the losing effort. Snell walked three and struck out two.

The Cubs got their offense in gear in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Snyder and an RBI single from Hoffpauir to come back from an early 1-0 deficit.

The I-Cubs did even more damage in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on four hits while sending 10 men to the plate.

Bryan LaHair led off, singled up the middle of the infield and moved to second after Welington Castillo was hit by a pitch. Jim Adduci followed Castillo with a bunt single to load the bases for Matt Camp. Snell walked Camp and LaHair crossed the plate for the first run of the inning. Sam Fuld then hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Castillo from third while Adduci advanced to third. With Darwin Barney at the plate, Camp was able to steal second base to move into scoring position. After Barney struck out, Snyder ripped a two-run single into left field to chase Snell from the mound. The Cubs weren't done scoring yet as reliever Edward Paredes walked Micah Hoffpauir and gave up a two-run double to Bobby Scales.

Castillo added a solo home run in the seventh inning, his 13th on the year.

Hung-Wen Chen (2-1, 4.00) made his third start for Iowa and settled in nicely after allowing a first-inning run. Chen worked six strong innings and notched a quality start. He gave up two runs on six hits while striking out three.

Iowa relievers Scott Maine and Marcos Mateo each turned in 1-2-3 innings for Iowa to shut the door on Tacoma.

The Iowa Cubs will continue their series with Tacoma Thursday night at Principal Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and will see Tacoma LH Ryan Feierabend (3-3, 4.92) battle Iowa RH Jeff Samardzija (8-1, 3.23).
