HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros Player Development Department has named the following Players of the Month for July: Round Rock: RHP Gary Majewski, OF Drew Locke, OF Brian Bogusevic; Corpus Christi: RHP Jailen Peguero, IF Michael Affronti, OF Jonathan Gaston; Lancaster: RHP Ross Seaton, IF Albert Cartwright, IF Andrew Simunic; Lexington: LHP Luis Cruz, IF Jose Altuve, IF Jonathan Meyer; Tri-City: RHP Carlos Quevedo, IF Enrique Hernandez, IF Ben Orloff; Greeneville: LHP Garrett Bullock, C Chris Wallace, OF Emilio King; GCL Astros: RHP Jose Perdomo, OF Jose Monzon, C Roberto Pena; DSL Astros: RHP Francisco Baso, OF Luis De La Rosa, IF Raymer Lopez. These awards are chosen every month by the field staff of each team.
Triple A Round Rock: RHP Gary Majewski posted a 2-1-1 record and a 3.86 ERA (5ER/11.2IP) in nine games in July to earn Round Rock Pitcher of the Month honors. OF Drew Locke was named Offensive Player of the Month for the second consecutive month after hitting .271 (29x107) with 13 extra-base hits, including 9 doubles, and 17 RBI in 28 July games. OF Brian Bogusevic received Round Rock's Defensive Player of the Month honors after playing in 27 games with the Express last month. On the season, he has posted a .994 fielding percentage in 103 games at Triple A.
Double A Corpus Christi: After posting a 0.00 ERA (0ER/20IP) with two saves in 11 games in July, RHP Jailen Peguero was named Pitcher of the Month for the Hooks. OF Jonathan Gaston was named Offensive Player of the Month after hitting .324 (35x108) with a .376 on-base percentage and 16 RBI. IF Michael Affronti earned Defensive Player of the Month honors and owns a .985 fielding percentage in 2010.
Class A Advanced Lancaster: JetHawks Pitcher of the Month RHP Ross Seaton owned a 2-1 record and a 4.67 ERA (18ER/34.2IP) in six starts, while striking out 22 batters in July. IF Albert Cartwright hit .371 (26x70) with five doubles, four triples and 12 RBI to earn his third Offensive Player of the Month award of the season. The Defensive Player of the Month was IF Andrew Simunic, who has posted a .963 fielding percentage while playing primarily third base this year.
Class A Lexington: Pitcher of the Month LHP Luis Cruz finished 3-1 in July with a 2.78 ERA (10ER/32.1IP) in five starts for Lexington. IF Jose Altuve was named Offensive Player of the Month after hitting .346 (37x107) with a .402 on-base percentage and 13 RBI in 26 games. IF Jonathan Meyer received Defensive Player of the Month honors and owns a .911 fielding percentage in 92 games as Lexington's third baseman in 2010.
Short-Season A Tri-City: After posting a 3-1 record in six games (all starts) with a 4.13 ERA (15ER/32.2IP) in July, RHP Carlos Quevedo was named Pitcher of the Month for the ValleyCats. IF Enrique Hernandez was named Offensive Player of the Month after hitting .330 (38x115) with 11 doubles, a .363 on-base percentage and 18 RBI. IF Ben Orloff earned Defensive Player of the Month honors and owns a .947 fielding percentage this season.
Rookie Greeneville: Astros Pitcher of the Month LHP Garrett Bullock owned a 1-0 record and a 2.35 ERA (4ER/15.1IP) in nine games for Greeneville in July. C Chris Wallace hit .327 (37x113) with four doubles, five home runs and 22 RBI to earn the Offensive Player of the Month award. The Defensive Player of the Month was OF Emilio King, who owns a .989 fielding percentage while playing primarily right field this season.
Rookie Gulf Coast League: RHP Jose Perdomo posted a 3-1 record and a 1.29 ERA (4ER/28IP) in five starts in July to earn GCL Astros Pitcher of the Month honors. OF Jose Monzon was named Offensive Player of the Month after hitting .272 (22x81) with 4 doubles and 9 RBI in 22 July games. C Roberto Pena received Astros' Defensive Player of the Month honors after playing in 18 games with the GCL club last month. On the season, he has posted a .986 fielding percentage.
Rookie Dominican Summer League: LHP Francisco Baso posted a 2-0 record with one save and a 0.00 ERA (0ER/11.2IP) in four games to earn Pitcher of the Month honors for the DSL Astros. The Offensive Player of the Month honor was awarded to OF Luis De La Rosa, who hit .306 (30x98) with six doubles and 13 RBI. IF Raymer Lopez earned the Defensive Player of the Month for the Astros after posting a .946 fielding percentage in 46 games this season.
