
C's Win NWL West Division on Thursday in Everett

(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians needed extra innings, but got a double off the bat of RF Douglas Landaeta that helped kick start a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning to help Vancouver to a 3-2 victory over the Everett Aquasox that gave the C's their first Division pennant since 2005, claiming the second half title.
The C's opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning when DH Ryan Lipkin hit his 12th double of the summer and scored on a single off the bat of C John Nester giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead.
The Aquasox would even the game at 1-1 when CF Robbie Anston singled, stole his 15ht base of the season and scored on a single from RF Kevin Rivers.
Vancouver managed to regain the lead in the top of the 4th inning when 3B Tony Thompson singled, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from C John Nester, moved over to third base on a ground out from 2B Ryan Pineda and scored on a single from LF Jeff Bercume to give the C's a 2-1 lead.
Everett tied the game for the second time in the bottom of the 5th inning when CF Robbie Anston singled, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from 3B Terry Serrano and eventually scored when Canadians RHP Nathan Long offered up a wild pitch evening up the game at 2-2.
With this being the first game of a double header, this game was scheduled for seven innings. The C's took a 2-2 tie into the top of the 8th inning and got a double from RF Douglas Landaeta who was bunted over by SS Wade Kirkland and scored on a wild pitch from Everett reliever RHP John Housey.
Canadians closer RHP A.J. Griffin would come in for the bottom of the 8th inning and strike out the side to give Vancouver the 3-2 win and secure the second half NWL pennant.
NOTE: Canadians RHP Nathan Long could not surpass RHP Scott Deal (2002) for most wins in a season by a Vancouver pitcher finishing the summer at 8-2. Canadians closer RHP A.J. Griffin equaled the most saves accumulated by a C's reliever with 15, tying RHP Jose Guzman (2008)... Canadians RF Douglas Landaeta was 2-for-4 and brings his hits total to 81 on the 2010 season. Landaeta needs four more hits over the final four games of the regular season to surpass Javier Herrera's record of 84 set in 2004.
